How to Play YouTube Video in Picture-in-Picture Mode on iOS. iPhone and iPad users can enjoy picture-in-picture mode YouTube videos just like Android devices. You don’t need to have the YouTube app installed on your iPhone or iPad to get picture-in-picture mode. Instead, you may experience using a web browser directly including the already loaded Safari.

Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode is basically quite useful if you want to do some multitasking on your iPhone or iPad. There is a message on WhatsApp you can easily access your settings menu or check.

Apple has enabled local picture-in-picture support since last year’s release of iOS 14 / iPadOS 14. It can be used to watch picture-in-picture mode YouTube videos on your Apple device. Here’s how it’s possible.

How to Play YouTube Video in Picture-in-Picture Mode on iOS:

Before you begin the steps you can take to run picture-in-picture mode YouTube videos on iOS, it is important to note that you must have a YouTube premium member and icon with the account you have a paid subscription. The feature also doesn’t work with the YouTube app at the moment. Picture-in-picture means that you need to rely on a web browser such as Safari or Chrome to play your favorite YouTube videos.

  1. Open your web browser and log in to your YouTube account that is part of the YouTube Premium subscription.
  2. Search for a video that you want to watch.
  3. Switch to full screen mode by tapping the square icon from the bottom right of the video.
  4. Then tap the controls view video tap from the top left Picture-in-Picture button side – just the next close button. Alternatively, you can double-tap the screen with two fingers or just swipe your device from bottom to top to enable picture-in-picture mode.
  5. When playing YouTube videos constantly running in a small window – once enabled, picture-in-picture mode lets you move on and work on any other application you want.

You can exit picture-in-picture mode by tapping its icon on the right side of the small window. Also the original view can be moved back by double tapping on the video using two fingers. Once done, you can close your YouTube video by tapping the ‘x’ button.
