WhatsApp is a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, but still uses your phone for old school calls and SMS depending on the same contact list. Fortunately, it’s easy to add or delete a WhatsApp contact directly under the app, and it only takes a few moments. Here’s how to do it!
How to add a contact to WhatsApp:-
By default, WhatsApp will sync your contacts to the Contacts app on your phone. To add a contact, all you need to do is contact the Contacts app you use on your phone. If you are not sure how to do this, you can drag the prompt to add contacts directly inside WhatsApp.

How to add a contact to WhatsApp:-
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Tap the chat bubble in the bottom right of the screen.
- Tap New Contact and your contacts app will open.
- Enter the contact’s details and save the contact.
That’s all! If your contacts do not appear in a WhatsApp, you can refresh the list by tapping the chat bubble, then the top right, then the three dots at Refresh. All contact applications should be visible.
If the contacts still do not appear in the list, it is possible that they did not install WhatsApp on their phone. You can send one of them under Invite Friend from the same menu above.
How to delete a WhatsApp contact:-
Deleting a WhatsApp contact follows the same rules set out above. To delete them, you must remove them from your contact list. You can do this from WhatsApp as well.
How to delete a WhatsApp contact:-
- Open the contact chat you want to remove in WhatsApp.
- Tap the three dots at the top right and tap the contact view
- Tap the top three dots right again, then tap View in the address book.
- Delete the contact from your contacts app.
Note that deleting a WhatsApp contact will only remove them from your contacts list. If you want to block any future messages, you can also clear the chat, report that user, or block from the same menu.
